9. Affect vs Effect
Another case which is quite similar to the one mentioned above. Once again we have two similar sounding words with almost the same letters. To make matters worse, both can be used as a verb and a noun. Affect means to influence something or somebody. “Your enthusiasm has affected us”. “Effect”, however, means to accomplish something. “the effects of the medicine have worn off.”
