Emotional manipulation can happen just about anywhere and at any time. In fact, you might run into it when someone uses it as a sales or negotiating technique, taking advantage of a potential client’s weakness. This is often done to get them to buy something without thinking about whether or not they are ready to make an informed choice.
Clearly, these methods aren’t as bad as, say, tricking people into not believing anything at all, which we saw earlier. Most of the time, it’s helpful to be able to recognize when someone is trying to force you to do something. Once you know, you can easily take action, such as getting away from the person, trying to buy time, looking at other options, and getting second opinions. Making big choices takes time, and you should do it when you’re calm and collected.
