9. Live/Dead by Grateful Dead
The first album of this iconic rock band consisted of a number of songs from their live performances and was called “the finest rock improvisation ever recorded.” It has seven songs with side-long jams, an 11/8 double-drummer groove, modal weavings, cryptic lyrics, gentle Martian gongs, a crowd frothing rave-up, feedback squelches, and a cappella reprise and a “deep sense of architecture” according to Rolling Stone.
