13. Erta Ale Volcano of Ethiopia
Erta Ale is the most active volcano in Ethiopia. It is known as the longest holding lava lake. There are only 6 volcanoes with Lava Lake in the world and Erta Ale is one of them. It is situated in the Afar region of northeastern Ethiopia. In their local language, Erta Ale means smoking mountain. The area is often addressed as “the gateway to Hell” because of its fiery boiling temperature.
