Caffeine consumption has been linked to kidney stones. Calcium oxalate stones, the most common type of kidney stone, are formed from the combined crystals of calcium and oxalate. Caffeine is a stimulant and long term use can increase the risk of renal failure if the kidneys are already damaged. Consuming even small amounts of caffeine on an empty stomach can cause kidney stones. It is best to consume teas/coffee in moderation. Go for herbal teas instead; and if you must drink coffee, then decaf coffee is your best option.
