3. Negative self-talk
Depressed people are in mental (and sometimes physical) pain. They may start talking negatively about themselves, sometimes in a joking manner, to get the attention away from their underlying pain. In adolescents, risk-taking behaviour might increase. They might do this to overcome their numbness or even to inflict harm on themselves.
2. Exhaustion or tiredness
It is very common for depressed persons to be constantly exhausted or complain about being constantly tired. For someone whose depression is not yet diagnosed, this tiredness can be perplexing. They might get a full night’s sleep and still feel exhausted after waking up. They get plenty of sleep but they still feel like they only slept a few hours after waking up.
