6. Lowers cholesterol
The water-soluble fibre in oatmeal reduces the ‘bad’ cholesterol levels in your blood. This is also known as LDL or low-density lipoprotein. Just 10 grams of fibre can reduce both your total cholesterol and LDL. Soluble fiber can lower the absorption of cholesterol into your bloodstream. As a result, your levels of blood cholesterol will be much lower. This makes oatmeal extremely helpful when dealing with obesity and weight loss. If you want to consume oatmeal to reduce cholesterol, resist the urge to add sugar, syrup, heavy cream or dried fruits to the oatmeal, as they are rich in sugar and trans-fats.
