2. “Don’t try to talk us out of our emotions.”
Trying to relieve us of our fear or sadness is comforting to us. In fact, we might even ask you if we have any reason to be worried, to help us combat our irrational worries. But there’s a fine line between trying to help us and trying to talk us out of it. Never tell us that our worries don’t really exist. Don’t tell us that it is just in our heads. That makes us feel like there is something wrong with us- that we are broken, different and damaged. It makes us feel like we are isolated and that no one can understand us.
