1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The 1975 film adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail was a hit movie, grossing over $30 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Python film.
Terry Jones directed the movie and again starred the Pythons (John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Michael Palin). It also featured David Warner as King Arthur and was seen by almost half of England’s population on its first release.
It is a parody of King Arthur set in a world where crude humor is used to replace fantasy with reality. In addition to parodies of mythological figures like Merlin and the Lady of the Lake, it includes British cultural references such as “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
