The movie is based on a historical novel of the same name that takes place in Guernsey, United Kingdom during World War II and tells the story of an author who starts writing letters to a book club in Guernsey. It follows historian Juliet Ashton, who starts corresponding with members of a book club on the island. She’s drawn into their lives, including their suffering during German occupation when they’re cut off from everything outside the island.
