5. The Whopper Jr. was not Planned
Contrary to what most people think, the Whopper Jr. was not a marketing gimmick. It was actually a result of smart improvisation. The smaller version of the sandwich debuted in 1963. There was a grand opening going on of a BK in Puerto Rico. One of the employees noticed that the molds that were needed to make the buns of the Whopper hadn’t yet arrived. So, he proceeded to substitute them with traditional hamburger buns instead. The company, soon after, embraced the idea. The employee made his way into the Burger King Hall of Fame. He eventually became CEO of Carribean Restaurants which is the parent company of BK locations in Puerto Rico.
