4. Ask emotion-based, specific ‘yes or no’ questions

FBI investigators often ask emotion-triggering questions to the suspects like “When you saw the dead body, how did you feel?”. To this a truthful person who has lost a friend for example may burst into tears, while the criminal may answer like this “I felt terrible, I suppose”. Similarly an employee who is being suspected of misplacing cash may be asked “How did you feel when you found out that $10000 was missing from the accounts?”.
Ask questions which are bound to be answered with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. When interviewing a candidate, instead of asking “Which computer skills do you have?”, ask “Do you have experience with Microsoft Outlook?”.
