21. Cat Got Your Tongue?
Cat got their tongue means something said by a person at a loss of words. There are two sources to this saying, the first one is whip used by English Navy for flogging, referring to cat-o-nine-tails. The whip hurt so much pain that the victim would become speechless. The second one came from the practice of cutting out tongues of liars and blasphemers and feeding them to cats.
