19. Don’t Throw the Baby Out with the Bathwater
This expression means to hang on to valuable things when getting rid of unnecessary things. People only bathed once during the year 1500s, with the whole family together in a tub. The man of the house and then the females and then the babies would bath, which means by the time the babies would bath the water would become thick and cloudy. The mothers had to make sure all the babies were taken out of the tub before the water was thrown out.
