If you eat sugary foods late at night, you might get a rush of energy when you should be trying to slow down and get ready for bed. Serotonin, our “happy hormone,” is primarily made in the gut. It is needed to make melatonin, our “relaxation hormone,” which helps us get a good night’s sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, reducing the sugar you eat and being kind to your gut might help.
