5. Cabrera, Spain
Six miles south of Mallorca is the small island of Cabrera. It has a complicated history, including Berber pirates, Spanish soldiers, and French prisoners of war. Today, nature rules: Caspian gulls, cormorants, and lizards love this national park. Swim in empty coves and look for wildlife. Add a hike around its crumbling medieval castle on top of a hill, and then eat at Cabrera’s cantina in Es Port.
