4. Lastovo, Croatia
To get to Lastovo, you must take a hard four-and-a-half-hour ferry ride from Split. However, this big Croatian island is so different from its touristy sister that you’ll be glad you did. Spend your time wandering through pine forests, admiring the island’s Venetian-style houses, visiting some of its 38 churches, or swimming in the clear water off Skrivena Luka bay. There is only one hotel, called Solitudo, and it has a restaurant with a view of the sea where you can get delicious lobster cooked in a Dalmatian style.
