Even though the results of studies have been mixed, some research shows that coffee may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. One review of 13 studies found that people who regularly drank coffee had a much lower chance of getting Parkinson’s disease. Also, Parkinson’s disease worsened less quickly when people drank coffee over time.

Another review of 11 studies that looked at more than 29,000 people found that the risk of Alzheimer’s disease went down the more coffee people drank. Several studies have also shown that drinking moderate amounts of coffee could be linked to a lower risk of dementia and mental decline.
