7. Emotional understanding
The last point sort of ties into this one. We mean that it’s important to be able to see things from someone else’s point of view not just when they’re in trouble, but also when you’re fighting with them.
Of course, very few people ever say, “You have the right to feel this way, and I understand that,” during an argument. It seems like saying that would only make things worse, but it won’t. These words can work like a miracle. Your partner will see that you understand how they feel and that, even though you’re upset, you’re okay with how they feel. When you realize this, you feel relieved and forget about the bad feelings.
