How to Deal With People Who Drain Your Energy, According to Psychotherapists

7. Keep your cool.

Some people never seem to complain about their lives and actively brag about all the good things that happen. They may do it in a self-deprecating way, like boasting about how they put in longer hours than others or how nobody ever invites them on vacations, but what they’re really doing is reassuring themselves that they’re not worthless – by making sure you’re aware. If somebody is wasting your time and energy like that, just try not to retaliate with aggression. They want to feel valued so when you reply to them, say something nice before laying out your point. After that though reaffirm the original message in a non-aggressive manner.
