A research Nancy ran in the mid 1990s used PET scans to study the areas in the brain mentioned above. Surprisingly, the results aided in increasing her knowledge of how the lemmas affect creativity. The research was based on the how the human mind stored recollections. Nancy and her partners asked individuals to remember an acute event that had taken place and recount it with their eyes shut. On the other hand, the individuals were asked to ease up and let their imaginations wander. Even though the latter was believed to be a state of calm, Nancy hypothesized that the advanced areas in the brain would be going wild while the rest of the mind rested. This hunch was on the basis of previous studies made by philosophers and psychologists that creativity was a spontaneous process and was likely to take place in an unconscious form. True to her hunch, her team was able to deduce that the lemmas were extremely lively when the subjects were relaxing.
