Taktsang Goemba or Tiger Nest Monastery is the birthplace of Mahayana Buddhism in Bhutan. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew on a tigress’ back to this place in the 7th century to subdue a wicked demon, and prayed for 3 years, 3 months and 3 days, and then started preaching Buddhism. You may not have a flying tigress, so you will have to hike for 2.5 hours to reach this monastery situated on a cliff about 900 m high.
