5. Coughing
In heart failure, your heart muscle doesn’t work right. This could be because it can’t contract enough or is too stiff. This can cause your lungs to fill up with fluid called pulmonary edema. Your body repeatedly coughs to get rid of the extra fluid.
Some of the signs are:
- Shortness of breath that gets worse when you work out or lie down.
- Heavy wheezing.
- You feel like your chest is bubbling.
- A wet cough with mucus that is white or pink.
- A dry cough.
