“Dairy often causes symptoms through a number of different ways, such as lactose intolerance, a lack of lactase enzyme, FODMAP intolerance, or a milk allergy,” says Dr. Ivanina. Some dairy products also have hormones and antibiotics that could be harmful.
“Even though antibiotics are important and sometimes necessary for killing bad bacteria, they can also hurt or kill good bacteria,” says Taub-Dix. This means that they can throw off the balance of the good bacteria in your gut.
