2. Refined sugar
Foods containing large amounts of refined sugars have little nutritional value but are high in “empty” calories. They are known to cause diabetes, heart disease and weight gain. They are also sources of carbohydrates that encourage your body to store extra fat around the stomach. Moreover, they do not fill you up, and will make you end up eating more. Common foods containing excessive amounts of refined sugars include candy bars, table sugar, certain pasta sauces, sweet cereals and milkshakes. Most junk foods and baked goods have large amounts of sugar. Even ‘healthy’ foods such as smoothies can kick up your sugar levels.
