Around the 1920s people didn’t have much idea about how the nerved inside the body worked. Then German pharmacologist Dr. Otto Loewi dreamt of an incredible experiment, which can prove that nerve cells communicate with a chemical process. He immediately started the experiment and made a frog’s heart beat faster or slower by applying fluids from another heart that was beating at desired speed. It proved that nerves tell muscles what to do by distribution of chemicals and not by sending tiny electrical impulses. He later received Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery of this substance.
