4. Utility fog
Utility fogs are basically a swarm of nanobots that can take the shape of any object and has the ability to change its shape in an instant. Sounds too far-fetched? They have already been designed by nanotech pioneer J. Storrs Hall. These ‘foglets’ are a highly sophisticated piece of technology and each foglet would have a tiny computer. Each foglet would be linked together by circuits. A utility fog would act as programmable matter with the ability to move around, envelope and even transport an object or person. More radically, utility fogs could even be used to build a functional virtual world around a person.
