4. Traumatized soldier from World War I
The carnage from World War are well known, however, people often forget the psychological toll the war took on the soldiers who did survive. This photo taken in 1916, shows a shell-shocked soldier in the trenches. He is grinning in the middle of chaos and appears to have gone mad. His eyes are gleaming and they show us that his psyche has finally broken from the horrors of what he has seen.
