We have had a very good time since we discovered plastic. Millions of lives have changed as a direct result of plastic invention and production. However, the use of plastic has resulted in plastic pollution. We are polluting our rivers and oceans with things made of plastic. Animals and birds are dying as a result of this. This has become a serious issue.
One of the things we can do to prevent further plastic pollution is that we curb or completely eliminate using everyday plastic products. Here’s how we can achieve that:
7. Say No to plastic bags
It is estimated that 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are used each year worldwide. 1 plastic bag takes about 1000 years to break down. Only one in about 200 plastic bags are recycled on average. Plastic bags are often found in coastal cleanups.
Instead of using plastic bags for groceries, use reusable cloth bags. There are also paper bags, canvas bags, jute bags, cotton bags and basket bags that can be used as alternatives.
