Ridiculous it may sound – the bacteria in your stomach wall might be adding to your stress. Research shows that nerve endings in the gut are pretty well connected to the brain and the traffic is two-way. Meaning an upset stomach means an upset mind as well. A University of California, Los Angeles study conducted in 2013 amongst a group of women who were healthy and fit concluded that eating yogurt containing probiotics decreased the nerve activity in areas of the brain that control emotion. This was then compared to results found from people who barely consume yogurt with or without probiotics. The study is not comprehensive enough yet — but taking into account how yogurt is rich in calcium and protein in addition to probiotics, there seems to be no harm in adding more of it to your meals.
