The main reason for cutting down on calories for some can be losing weight. You consume less sugar, you gain fewer calories. However, evidence suggests that if you replace sugar by artificial sweeteners, it might not help you lose weight. Rebecca Oh, RD, is a clinical dietitian and she says, “Diet soda does not promote weight loss and it has no effect on glycemic response in adults with diabetes. Therefore, diet soda should not be used as a weight-loss strategy or means to control diabetes”.
