6. Imply vs Infer
Not a lot of people make this mistake, partly because half of the people don’t know where to use them. Implying means, to suggest something without saying it outright. “His praising of the rival company implied that he wasn’t happy at his job”. Infer, on the other hand, means to draw a conclusion from an implied suggestion. “the company could infer that he was talking with the rival company.”
