4. Standing Outside in Open Spaces
In order to avoid standing under a tree, you might choose to be in an open area or an open field. This can turn out to be more dangerous, unfortunately. If you stand in a flat area with nothing taller than you around, you become an easy target for the lightning. It is most convenient for lightning to strike the tallest object in an open area. What can you do? Try to get yourself inside a car or a building.
